Pinellas County Housing Authority’s Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living Facility to Become Senior Crimestopper Community
The Pinellas County Housing Authority seeks owners of quality one and two bedroom rental properties to make their units available for rapid leasing to participants of the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program.
For additional information please attend an informational meeting on November 16, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Pinellas County Housing Authority, 11479 Ulmerton Road Largo, FL 33778.
By becoming a Senior Crimestopper member, Magnolia Gardens ALF becomes its own in-house crimestopper community. The benefits include a positive partnership with residents, families, staff and the community at large. Specially designed individual lock boxes to safeguard personal items in each resident’s apartment, around the clock access to the Senior Crimestoppers 800 number tips line and its thoroughly trained operators; full orientation and training materials for involving residents, families and staff in the community chapters all contribute to the success of this program.
Senior Crimestoppers has “Zero Tolerance” to theft and crime within a chartered community. Anyone with any knowledge of any incident can call the special tips line number at 1-800-590-5850 to anonymously report their information. Tips called into the program receive swift action. Immediately upon the report of a crime, Senior Crimestoppers posts cash reward of up to $1,000 for tips on the crime, generates a reward poster, and faxes it back to the member community. That poster is then circulated throughout the community to the staff, residents and families. Anyone with information can then call with a tip and possibly qualify for the reward – all anonymously.
Senior Crimestoppers works because just like in the community, fear and apathy over fighting crime are overcome through guaranteed anonymity to each caller and the payment of cash rewards.
Nationally, Senior Crimestoppers has reduced the number of crime incidents by 92%.The strength of the Senior Crimestoppers program is in working with concerned, proactive members of the senior housing industry, such as Magnolia Gardens ALF. This program will provide safer communities for residents and their family members. It is a winning situation for all concerned.
The Pinellas County Housing Authority is very pleased with MIA’s plans for the Senior Crimestoppers program at Magnolia Gardens. “Our plans are to implement similar programs in our other affordable senior housing communities” said Debra Johnson, PCHA’s Executive Director.
