Computer Labs
Computers and the internet have changed the way we study, learn, apply for jobs and interact with others. Many of the youth in PCHA’s communities do not have the luxury of a computer, but find it’s a necessity, especially for school. Understanding this need, and in keeping with our goal of providing programs and services for resident self-sufficiency, the PCHA recently opened the doors to a bright, new youth computer learning center at Norton Apartments.
The opening of the center has given the youth at Norton Apartments the opportunity to access computers and the internet for homework and research. Students can receive homework assistance, computer instruction, and mentoring through the recently hired Youth Services Coordinator. All computers provide the latest technology in spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
The center is also open for adults where they can utilize the computers for job searches, resume preparation, education, skills training, budgeting and communication.
State of the art computer labs are also located in the GRAYDI office within the Rainbow Village public housing community. Computers are available for use by children on a daily basis throughout the school year and during the summer months. Adult supervision and assistance is provided. A separate computer lab is also available for adult use.
PCHA’s affordable housing properties also provide access to the latest technology for resident use. East Lake Club Apartments recently opened an on-site business center for resident use and computers with internet access are also available at Palm Lake Village and Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living Facility.
