A meaningful step forward for affordable senior housing in St. Petersburg
The Pinellas County Housing Authority is excited to share an important update: Mayor Ken Welch has selected PCHA’s affordable senior housing proposal to move forward as part of the Historic Gas Plant District redevelopment process.
This is a major milestone for a project rooted in housing, history, and connection.
The proposed community would create affordable apartment homes for seniors in a thoughtfully designed, transit-accessible location near the Pinellas Trail and downtown St. Petersburg. More than a housing development, this project represents an opportunity to honor the legacy of the Historic Gas Plant District and help create a path for seniors with historic ties to the community to remain connected to the place they call home.

As part of the proposal, preference would be given to seniors who were displaced from the Historic Gas Plant District, as well as individuals and families with historic ties to the community. Interest will continue to be handled through PCHA’s interest list as the project moves forward.
